da bwin: Disappointment for Ireland could well have ended in disappointment for Tottenham Hotspur fans.
da aposte e ganhe: No matter the size of the game, there’s always a certain amount of trepidation involved when your club’s best players take to the field in their country’s colours. And last night, when the goals started to go in for Denmark, Spurs fans may well have been screaming for the Danish talisman who will be needed at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday morning to come off the pitch for a bit of a rest.
On the other hand, the joy of World Cup qualification and the form Eriksen seems to have come into could prove of real benefit to Tottenham this weekend.
Last night, a hat-trick in a vital game against a stubborn defence showed that a Tuesday night game before an early Saturday lunchtime kick-off may have been even more beneficial to Spurs than any amount of rest could ever be.
Looking at the stats, there’s a lot to love. Not only did Eriksen prove his lethality by scoring three goals from four shots on target, but they were each superb finishes right into unsaveable parts of the net.
More impressive, however, was the part the stats won’t tell you. His 84 touches of the ball and 93% pass accuracy meant the performance of Spurs man was that of a bizarrely assured island of quality in the middle of a maelstrom of long balls and physicality. Ireland may not have showed enough quality to justify a claim for qualification last night, nor did they defend as well as they did in Copenhagen in the first leg, but it was clear that making sure Eriksen had no time on the ball was a hugely important part of Martin O’Neill’s gameplan.
And yet, Eriksen managed to weave away from his markers and provide a performance of real quality, linking up with his midfielders and attackers to great effect and scoring a hat-trick in the end.
This weekend, such form could be vital against Arsenal, who will of course provide sterner opposition. On Tuesday, Eriksen was the one player the opposition felt they had to watch closely. At the weekend, Arsenal will have the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli to occupy their thoughts as well as the Danish international. And that could well allow him the freedom to do what he did so well against Ireland.
