da bet vitoria: According to reports on Sky Sports, Everton winger Kevin Mirallas was sent away from training on Saturday in an incident that is likely to have thrown his future in doubt.
da supremo: Sky Sports says the 30-year-old, whose contract still has more than two-and-a-half years left to run, was banished from training along with teammate and former Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin due to a lack of effort having featured for just 406 minutes in total this season.
The attacker found first team football hard to come by under Ronald Koeman before the Dutchman was sacked last month, but despite starting against Chelsea and Leicester City under caretaker boss David Unsworth, the latest saga could see him leave the Merseyside outfit during the January transfer window.
Meanwhile, Southampton’s disappointing start to the campaign continued as they were beaten 1-0 by Burnley at St Mary’s on Saturday, and manager Mauricio Pellegrino will be looking to strengthen his attacking options in the New Year.
Here are three reasons Southampton should sign out of favour Everton star Mirallas…
Goals/Assists
With nine goals in their 11 Premier League matches so far this season – and just 41 in 38 last term – it is clear to see that Southampton are struggling from an attacking point of view and big changes may be needed in January to keep them away from the bottom three.
If Saints are looking for a forward who is proven in the English top flight then they should look no further than Mirallas, who has scored 29 goals and provided a further 24 assists in 150 Premier League appearances for the Toffees and would be an upgrade on the likes of Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond in the form they are currently in.
Versatility
If Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino wants a forward who can get goals from a range of different positions across the frontline, then Mirallas certainly has the versatility and all of the attributes needed to succeed.
The Belgian is able to play on either flank, as a number 10 or even as a centre-forward, and that should mean that he is able to get himself in the goalscoring positions that perhaps some Saints players have struggled to find so far this term.
Point to prove
After struggling to break into an Everton side that find themselves at the wrong end of the Premier League table and already eliminated from the group stages of the Europa League, Mirallas will have a big point to prove to the Toffees at his next club.
The 30-year-old will want to show that it was a mistake for the Merseyside oufit to let him go, while he will also be fighting for his place in the Belgium squad and team for the 2018 World Cup next summer.
That motivation alone should be enough to see him shine, and is another reason why he would be a good addition for Southampton during the January transfer window.
