da mrbet: Andre Villas-Boas has dismissed any talk of Tottenham being title challengers following their 3-2 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
da brdice: Tottenham recorded their first win over United since 1989, courtesy of goals from Jan Vertonghen, Gareth Bale and Clint Dempsey, but had to defend heroically for the final half an hour.
The victory also saw Tottenham move up into fifth place in the Premier League, just a point behind United and just five behind early pacesetters Chelsea.
Although the Tottenham manager admitted after the game, he is not looking to hunt down his former club at the top of the table.
Villas-Boas said: “This is a very special night for us but our quest is to qualify for the Champions League.
“It is very difficult to go for the title. We understand it is a place where the great teams of this country belong.
“We want to win a trophy this season – and we want Champions League qualification.”
Villas-Boas will now turn his attention to Thursday’s Europa League tie at Panathinaikos, before welcoming Aston Villa to White Hart Lane next Sunday.
