Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to reveal their frustration over the fact that Jamie McCart was only handed a yellow card by Bobby Madden in the 1-0 win over St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.
McCart was seen chasing down James Forrest in the second-half of the Hoops’ win, before he booted the Scotland international up in the air with what was a truly reckless challenge.
However, Madden only saw fit to brandish his yellow card as a result of the 79th minute moment, something that a number of Celtic fans on Twitter were seriously not happy with.
Luckily for Neil Lennon and his side, Forrest managed to play on and Celtic actually went and scored just two minutes after McCart’s gruesome challenge, courtesy of a freekick from Ryan Christie – it appeared as if Christopher Jullien actually got the final touch, although the towering centre-back has since admitted that it wasn’t his goal.
Despite progressing into the semi-finals, these Celtic fans below were still flabbergasted as to how the St Johnstone man remained on the pitch, having committed such a strong challenge.
Let’s see what the supporters on Twitter have been saying…
To kick off the reaction, Chris wanted someone from the Scottish FA to explain how Madden didn’t send McCart off.
Admittedly, it was a very late challenge, although it wasn’t one worthy of the FA coming out to explain themselves on this occasion, we feel – Celtic scored from the resulting free-kick anyway!
Elsewhere, another fan compared McCart’s tackle to a challenge on Rangers’ Borna Barisic earlier in the campaign.
Of course, it’s easy to compare tackles throughout the season, although different referees have different viewpoints, so it’s very much a thankless task to search for consistency in decisions such as these.
Lastly, these two fans also called for a red card.

It was a tough tackle, but thankfully it didn’t come back to bite the Hoops as they still got the victory – just focus on that and enjoy it!
